Classes of Unclean Spirits

Narcissism	Attempts to stimulate excessive love or admiration of oneself so that God has less room in your life. What does it mean to “Take Authority” over an unclean spirit?

Jesus sent seventy disciples out to prepare the way for his coming (Luke 10:1-17) they noted that even the unclean spirits were subject to them in the name of Jesus (Luke 10:17). This means that we have authority to command unclean spirits as long as we are doing what God is showing us to do. 

We have real spiritual authority as long as we are doing what our Heavenly Father is showing us to do. It’s important to note that you should not take authority unless you get a specific leading of the Holy Spirit. Philippians 2:5-8 says that we should be like Jesus in that “He humbled Himself by becoming obedient” to his Father. We need to be obedient to what God is leading us to do, especially when it comes to dealing with the enemy. We need to avoid doing things by the reasoning of our flesh.

We also need to avoid being intimidated by the enemy. If God gives us discernment about how we are being attacked and what the form of the attack is, this usually means that you have the authority over the unclean spirits attacking. If God gives you discernment about a spiritual attack on someone else, you probably need some type of confirmation that God want’s you to attack it before proceeding. If you don’t get the confirmation, get help!

So, how do we exercise this authority? It’s simple, you tell the unclean spirits to do something, in the name and by the authority of Jesus.

When I’m dealing with a “spirit of infirmity” I usually say: “In the Name of Jesus of Nazareth, the only begotten son of the One True God, I command that every spirit of infirmity that is attacking ________ be immediately cast strait into the pit of hell, sealed their for eternity without any chance of calling for replacements. All this is commanded in the Name of Jesus, by the power of his shed blood, and by his authority.” Notice that this is a simple but “airtight” command. It helps to have the mind of a lawyer when taking authority, because unclean spirits will use any excuse to escape or ignore your commands.
